Have you ever written something and submitted or sent it, only realizing afterward that your message contained an embarrassing typo or mistake? I certainly have, and the worst times are when you can't hit edit! Whether you consider yourself a writer or you just need to send a professionally worded business email, I think I've found a tool that could help us both avoid some grammar related errors and up our writing game.
Grammarly - A Business Tool for Success
As I type up this blog, I am writing in a tool called Grammarly. It looks a lot like Word or Pages, but with each sentence my fingers type, Grammarly is checking for grammar errors of all sorts. This tool has saved me from many typos and mistakes that I might have missed if the little red underline had not popped up with a suggested edit just to the right of my mistake. It even helps me come up with just the right word to enhance my communication when I am stuck on the same term.
So how can Grammarly help you? Here is a little rundown of what Grammarly is looking for in your writing:
- Contextual spelling
- Sentence structure
- Vocabulary enhancement
Contextual spelling and vocabulary enhancement are some of my favorite tools within Grammarly -- contextual spelling lets you know if you've used the wrong "then" or "their," and even catches you when making more obscure mistakes.
Emails, Social Media Posts, and Comments
When it comes to day-to-day use, I love that Grammarly has a Chrome extension that actively proofreads emails, social media posts and more. If you own a business or write professional communication, you know how easy it is for poor grammar to bring down the quality of a social media post or negate the impact of communication. By using Grammarly, you won't have the chance to hit post or send before Grammarly alerts you of any potential mistakes and offers suggested changes. At Trusty Oak, we serve a plethora of clients who all need professional social media posts and content -- Grammarly gives us that proof.
This business tool has helped me personally and professionally. I use Grammarly to ensure typos don't get in the way of my personal communication and I employ it to enrich my work and professional correspondence. Whether you use the paid subscription or the free features, Grammarly is an invaluable tool that is sure to improve your writing quality, right away.
